Our Story…

Our journey has spanned over 20 years, guided by the vision and dedication of Joanne Elliott, who has proudly owned and operated this cherished family-run property. While raising her five children, Joanne built a successful business grounded in community, culture, and the unique charm of Norfolk Island.

Along the way, her long-term partner, Enie Madden, joined the family after relocating from Taveuni, Fiji. With a background as a chef, Enie brings creativity, passion, and culinary expertise to every dish, crafting the magic that happens behind the scenes at The Bounty to this day.

Together, Joanne and Enie have nurtured a space where great food, warm hospitality, and island life come together — a place that feels like home for locals and visitors alike.

Joanne, of Pitcairn descent, has shaped a lifestyle that offers her children countless opportunities. Her sons fish the waters around Norfolk Island, supplying the restaurant with fresh, local produce, while her daughters have worked alongside Joanne and Ernie, helping to carry forward the family’s rich legacy.

To many locals and visitors it was a pleasure to watch Joanne’s children grow alongside the business over the years. Throughout the restaurant, the history of the family and island is lovingly displayed, creating a story-like experience that reflects their pride and passion for their home.

Together, the team is dedicated to delivering exceptional service, celebrating the beauty and culture of Norfolk Island, and creating memorable, meaningful experiences for every guest. As a family-owned and operated business, this is more than just a job — it’s their passion, their livelihood, and truly a part of who they are.

“Wander in, stay awhile, make yourself at home. Around our tables and beneath the trees, every guest becomes part of our ever-growing story…”

The History of the home itself…

Originally built in the early 1900s as a home by local resident Jack Jenkins and his family. Jack, his wife, and their two sons lived in the house for many years, laying down the walls of history yet to come. Today, the structure remains much as it was when it was restored, with the craftsmanship of the era still evident throughout—the timber doors, windows, and original whale-oiled timber lining the main section of the home.

Bounty is deeply cherished throughout Norfolk Island, a local favorite and a place that has hosted countless celebrations. It holds a special place in many hearts, reflecting both history and community.

From modest beginnings, we have grown through unwavering dedication and a commitment to continuous improvement. We are passionate about what we do, proud of the establishment we have built, and excited to share our story with you.

“We look forward to welcoming you and hope your experience with us is one you’ll treasure.”
